Biography
Emerging from Los Angeles’s underground club scene, bassist Jez Colin and percussionist Willie McNeil launched the Solsonics in 1991. Their sound centers on soul-jazz updated with contemporary hip-hop rhythms while also incorporating Afro-Cuban and reggae elements. The group secured its first national release in 1993 when Chrysalis issued the album Jazz in the Present Tense.
