Some Velvet Morning originated in North London during the mid-2000s when brothers Desmond on vocals and guitar and Gavin Lambert on bass and vocals joined forces with drummer Rob Flanagan. The group drew from an affinity for classic British rock and pop as they shaped their sound through natural collaboration, eventually partnering in 2007 with seasoned producers Rik Simpson and Mike Pelaconi to complete their first full-length release, Silence Will Kill You. Positive response greeted that album, after which the single “How to Start a Revolution” attracted worldwide notice through its placement in the trailer for the 2010 movie Kick Ass. Later the same year the band issued a self-titled EP whose more focused and refined approach marked a clear evolution. To finance their subsequent project they enlisted the crowd-funding platform My Major Company, ultimately securing £100,000 that enabled the 2012 album Allies, which included a revised take on the stadium anthem “How to Start a Revolution.”
