In 1991 MCA put out Bazerk Bazerk Bazerk, a fiercely charged set from the sharply dressed Son of Bazerk and his matching stylish crew—Cassandra (aka MC Halfpint), Almighty Jahwell, Daddy Rawe, and Sandman—billed collectively as No Self Control. The Bomb Squad supplied the production, augmented by scratches from Public Enemy’s Terminator X, and the album spotlighted the whirlwind, James Brown–inspired “Change the Style,” widely regarded as one of the strongest singles of rap’s golden era. Though follow-up releases “Bang (Get Down, Get Down)” and “What Could Be Better Bitch” generated less traction than “Change the Style,” the project overall holds its ground beside the rest of the Bomb Squad’s landmark work.
