Biography
Formed in Charlottesville, Virginia during 2005, the group Sons of Bill brought together brothers Sam Wilson, James Wilson, and Abe Wilson with their associates Seth Green on bass and Todd Wellons on drums. The band’s name paid tribute to the Wilson siblings’ father, Bill Wilson, who worked as a musician and served as professor emeritus of philosophical theology and Southern literature at the University of Virginia. Their sound merged graceful yet forceful elements of literate Americana folk-rock reminiscent of R.E.M. and Wilco. The independent debut A Far Cry from Freedom appeared in 2006, after which the Jim Scott-produced One Town Away followed in 2009. Critical praise greeted the 2012 album Sirens, while the EP The Gears surfaced in spring 2014. Later that year the Ken Coomer-produced Love and Logic arrived in the fall, and Oh God Ma'am came out in 2018.
