Biography
Spirea X emerged briefly as a dream pop and noise pop outfit on the 4AD imprint, led by Jim Beattie, formerly of Primal Scream. Judith Boyle and Andrew Kerr completed the lineup. During 1991 the band issued the singles Chlorine Dream and Speed Reaction plus the album Fireblade Skies. Sweet vocal lines intertwined with shifting passages of noisy or hazy guitar and dance rhythms, placing the album squarely amid the prevailing British sound of the era, yet it drew scant attention from buyers and jaded critics alike. Spirea X disappeared soon afterward, though Beattie and Boyle, together with the group’s former manager Simon Dine, went on to create Adventures in Stereo.
