Biography
In the middle of the 1980s Steve Weisberg drew modest notice through an unpredictable yet droll album titled I Can't Stand Another Night Alone in Bed with You, issued on Carla Bley's Xtra Watt imprint. Piano instruction began for him at age seven and remained centered on classical repertoire until jazz seized his attention at fifteen. Once secondary schooling ended, he enrolled at Berklee and pursued private lessons in composition with Mike Gibbs, the mentor who first presented him to Carla Bley. Besides the 1985 release, Weisberg supplied material for Hal Willner's Kurt Weill and Disney projects, joined Karen Mantler's group, and appeared on her album My Cat Arnold. During the 1990s he kept a relatively understated presence.
