Suidakra, a heavy metal ensemble hailing from Dusseldorf, Germany, fuses melodic folk, Celtic, and death metal through the integration of traditional instruments such as bagpipes, tin whistles, and banjos.

The group took shape in the mid-'90s initially as a death metal act, launched by guitarist Arkadius Antonik and drummer Stefan Möller, whose moniker reverses the guitarist's given name. Previously known as Gloryfication, they adopted the Suidakra name upon the arrival of keyboardist Daniela Voigt, guitarist Marcel Schoenen, and bassist Christoph Zacharowski. This lineup independently issued the debut album Lupine Essence in 1997.

German label Last Episode took notice and signed the band, issuing the follow-up Auld Lang Syne the next year. Zacharowski departed soon afterward, with Nils Bross stepping in to record Lays Afar in 1999 and The Arcanum in 2000, both reflecting a shift toward a more aggressive Gothenburg-style death metal sound.

Subsequent lineup adjustments and stylistic shifts accompanied their transition to the Sony imprint Century Media, which put out Emprise to Avalon in 2002 and Signs for the Fallen in 2003. Disagreements over creative direction prompted a move to Armageddon Music for the seventh album, Command to Charge, released in 2005.

With Antonik remaining the sole founding member and guiding a changing roster of musicians, the band drew from the historical conflict between the Picts and the Roman Empire for the 2006 release Caledonia, emphasizing traditional folk melodies highlighted by Highland bagpipes. The 2008 album Crógacht, titled from the Gaelic term for "bravery," advanced their evolution into Celtic-themed power metallers and incorporated a 16-member choir.

AFM Records signed Suidakra in 2011, leading to the tenth studio album Book of Dowth. Extensive touring that reached India and the United States preceded Eternal Defiance in 2013. Realms of Odoric from 2016 and the ambient folk-focused Cimbric Yarns from 2018 turned to fantasy themes inspired by the imaginative realms of frequent visual collaborator Kris Verwimp, the Belgian artist. Marking their 25th anniversary, Echoes of Yore appeared in 2019 and presented reimagined versions of earlier material.
