Heidevolk, a Dutch ensemble renowned for their intense and evocative fusion of folk, pagan, and Viking metal, first assembled in 2002 under the moniker Hymir. The musicians drew creative fuel from the natural world, Germanic myths, and the storied past of Gelderland, the evocative central Dutch province, launching their concert appearances in 2003 before unveiling their opening full-length effort, De Strijdlust Is Geboren, in 2005. The EP Wodan Heerst surfaced two years later, after which the outfit delivered consecutive Napalm releases with Walhalla Wacht in 2008 and Uit Ooude Grond in 2010. Their 2012 album Batavi unfolded as a story-centered work chronicling the stormy saga of an early Germanic people, while Velua, issued in 2015, took its cues from the thickly wooded slopes of their native region. The group returned in 2018 with Vuur Van Verzet, their sixth studio album, again through Napalm.
