Tanya Chua, a singer from Singapore, rose to prominence across much of Asia near the millennium’s start through her releases in both Mandarin and English. She entered the world in Singapore on January 28, 1975, and as a polyglot vocalist, launched her career on record in 1997 via the English album Bored. In the year that followed, she earned the distinction of being the initial Singaporean victor at the Asia Song Festival, leading to a deal with Universal Music Taiwan. Although her first Mandarin effort, Breathe from 1999, garnered positive reviews, it fell short of delivering the anticipated fame. It took a few more years, after moving to Warner Music and altering her approach, for her to achieve widespread recognition, especially in Taiwan, with the 2003 release Stranger marking her major commercial success.
