Biography
The Tarbox Ramblers connect pre-World War II roots music across racial lines by drawing in equal measure from early 20th-century blues, hillbilly, and gospel. Boston-based, the band forges its singular style from both deep tradition and raw alt-rock force through leader and singer Michael Tarbox’s open-tuned slide guitar, Johnny Sciascia’s upright string bass, Daniel Kellar’s fiddle, and Jon Cohan’s tribalistic drums. Their unorthodox live performances have energized local crowds and international audiences alike, eliciting strong praise from the New Yorker, the Washington Post, and additional outlets. Early in 2000 the group issued its self-titled debut on Rounder Records.
