Tawiah distinguishes herself through a commanding vocal style sharpened in church settings as a progressive R&B performer who also writes, produces, and plays several instruments. Recognition first arrived in her native England courtesy of the contemporary folk-soul ballad "Watch Me" (2007), at which point she drew international attention while touring extensively as a prominent member of Mark Ronson's ensemble. Her résumé further encompasses numerous collaborations and featured appearances alongside fellow nonconformists such as Blood Orange and Kindness, while her own catalog includes the EPs In Jodi's Bedroom (2008) and Recreate (2017) plus the full-length Starts Again (2019) on the First Word label.

Raised in South West London, Tawiah served as a praise and worship leader during church services, an experience complemented by the broader spectrum of Black music encountered in her Battersea home. She acquired proficiency on multiple instruments, studied at the BRIT School, and subsequently worked as a supporting vocalist for Mark Ronson—joining his live shows for two years in both lead and background roles—as well as Corinne Bailey Rae. In 2007 her "Watch Out" was included on DJ Gilles Peterson's second Brownswood Bubblers compilation and placed as the number two track of the year on his BBC Worldwide program. The song headed her independently released debut EP, In Jodi's Bedroom, early the following year. Additional credits by the end of 2008 encompassed projects from Simbad, Eric Lau, and Wale.

For nearly a decade thereafter, apart from scattered singles and a 2014 EP shared with Eric Lau, her activity centered on collaborative, featured, and background vocal contributions to albums by Duran Duran, Blood Orange, and Kindness. Teaming with Sam Beste of Hejira as co-writer and co-producer, she prepared the second EP Recreate, issued in 2017 on Hejira's Lima Limo Records. She and Beste next assembled Starts Again, which First Word released two years later. Shortly before that album appeared, the Cinematic Orchestra issued "Wait for Now," co-written and sung by Tawiah. She soon began working with spatial artist Myrrh, an alliance first showcased at the online Refraction Festival in 2020 and slated to yield an album in 2021.
