Biography
Providence, Rhode Island outfit the Brother Kite traces its roots to an initial partnership formed in 2001 by Patrick Boutwell and Jon Downs. The full lineup only solidified the next year once bassist Andrea Mason and guitarist Mark Howard joined. In 2003 the quartet issued a split 7" alongside Vaguely Starshaped, then delivered its debut album, titled The Brother Kite, the year after. Drummer Matt Rozzero came aboard shortly thereafter, prompting work on a follow-up. Two years later the band surfaced from its own studio with Waiting for the Time to Be Right, an album that merged the group’s established shoegaze textures with psychedelic power-pop echoes of Smiley Smile-era Brian Wilson. In 2008 the track “The Coat of Arms” earned wider notice through its placement in the series Skins. Isolation arrived in 2010, and the fourth album, Model Rocket, followed in 2013.
