In the opening months of 1967 the Casinos stood out by climbing into the Top Ten with "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye," a slow-dance number built around a swelling organ and styled as a deliberate throwback to the early-'60s ballad sound. Their own makeup reinforced the contrast, marked by close harmonies in a doo wop vein and a neatly groomed, traditional appearance. The recordings themselves held appeal through a romantic white soul groove suited to the Southeastern beach music scene, even though the Casinos originated in Cincinnati. During the remainder of the '60s they issued further singles on Fraternity, some continuing in the group-harmony format and others shifting toward brighter, more contemporary soul-pop arrangements, yet none approached the earlier success of "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye."
