Biography
The Disco Evangelists brought together Ashley Beedle, born in London, England; David Holmes, born in Belfast, Northern Ireland; and Lyndsay Edwards, also born in London and formerly of If?. Their track “De Niro” first appeared on Beedle’s own Black Sunshine imprint and later transferred to Positiva Records, its title nodding to the Robert De Niro film Once Upon a Time in America. A subsequent release, “A New Dawn,” likewise appeared on the Positiva roster. Beedle collaborated with Nick and Rob from the Stereo MCs under the Axis moniker on “Rollin’ With Rai,” while also contributing to Workshy, X-Press 2, Black Science Orchestra and Marden Hill. In 1994 he launched Delta House Of Blues, an act that secured a deal with Go! Discs. Additional remix credits include work for Jodeci and East 17 on “Deep.” Holmes ranks among England’s most inventive and active DJs, performing with Scubadevils alongside former Dub Federation members and overseeing the Sugarsweet/Exploding Plastic Inevitable club and label operations in Belfast; his solo album Let’s Get Killed further earned widespread critical praise.
