Biography
Formed in Brighton, England, on January 1, 2000, the noise-rock quintet joined a fresh wave of British guitar outfits that also included Ikara Colt and British Sea Power. Guy McKnight handled vocals, Andy Huxley played lead guitar, Marc Norris contributed guitar, Sym Gharial held down bass, and Tom Diamantepoulo sat behind the drums. Limited technical ability was offset by sheer visceral force, allowing the group to cultivate a fearsome concert presence that frequently pushed shows toward the brink of chaos through their chaotic stage antics. They labeled their style “dark psychosis rock” and drew repeated, often superficial parallels in the British music papers to the Birthday Party and the Make-Up. The band’s first release arrived in March 2002 via Radiate Records, an imprint linked to Virgin Records, with the single “Morning Has Broken.” Their debut album, Horse Of The Dog, contained ten short, high-impact songs that began with the sleazy, distorted riffing of “Celebrate Your Mother” and also featured the blunt yet infectious “Whack Of Shit” and “Psychosis Safari.”
