Among the leading vocal and instrumental ensembles tied to the Jovem Guarda movement, the Fevers backed an array of its leading figures on record—Eduardo Araújo, Deny e Dino, Roberto Carlos, Erasmo Carlos, Wilson Simonal, the Golden Boys, Paulo Sérgio, Jorge Ben, and Trio Esperança—while also releasing material under their own name. Their most prominent successes included the singles “De Que Vale Tanto Amor,” “Sinto Mas Não Sei Dizer,” “Pra Cima, Pra Baixo,” and “Guerra dos Sexos,” the last of which served as the theme for a 1983 telenovela.

The ensemble first assembled in 1964 under the name the Fenders, its original lineup consisting of Almir Ferreira Bezerra on vocals, Liebert Ferreira Pinto on bass, Lécio do Nascimento on drums, Pedrinho on guitar, Cleudir Teles Borges on keyboards, and Jimmy Cruise on vocals. Following Cruise’s exit, the group adopted the name the Fevers the following year. Their initial LPs appeared in 1965 and 1966 and featured the tracks “Vamos Dançar o Letkiss,” “Wooly Bully,” and “Não Vivo na Solidão.”
