Biography
Formed in Memphis, TN, during 1963, the Gentrys originally consisted of seven musicians: vocalist Bruce Bowles, saxophonist Bobby Fisher, vocalist Jimmy Hart, trumpet player Jimmy Johnson, bassist Pat Neal, vocalist Larry Raspberry, and drummer Larry Wall. Their first release, the album Keep on Dancing, reached the Top 100 on the strength of its title track. The ensemble sustained modest chart activity until 1966, at which point the lineup disbanded. In 1969 Jimmy Hart revived the project, this time assuming lead vocals himself, yet the reconstituted group achieved only fleeting notice before dissolving again. Raspberry later assembled multiple additional garage and soul outfits, whereas Hart adopted the wrestling persona known as the "Mouth of the South" and supplied theme music for both the WWF and WCW.
