Carla Bozulich, a fixture in the Southern California post-punk underground who had already logged time with both Ethyl Meatplow and Neon Veins, steered the Geraldine Fibbers as her blues-inflected, country-shaded outlet. Once Ethyl Meatplow dissolved in 1993, she assembled the initial lineup alongside guitarist Daniel Keenan, bassist William Tutton, violinist Jessy Greene, and drummer Kevin Fitzgerald; the quintet surfaced the next year on Sympathy for the Record Industry with the EP Get Thee Gone. Virgin subsequently signed the band, which delivered its widely praised full-length Lost Somewhere Between the Earth and My Home in 1995. Two years later came Butch, a harder-rocking follow-up tracked after Nels Cline joined on guitar.
