Biography
Montreal ska outfit the Kingpins originated during spring 1994 when bassist Jordan Swift and drummer Eric Boulanger assembled the core unit. Keyboardist Ian Hodkinson, saxophonist Lorraine Muller and alto saxophonist Nigel Goddard joined almost immediately, and singer Paddy Walsh, guitarist Bobby Beaton, trumpeter Jesse Radz plus trombonist Maith Robert de Massis had entered the ranks by 1995. Alongside fellow Montreal ska act the Planet Smashers, the Kingpins established their independent imprint Stomp, which issued the 1995 anthology The All-Skanadian Club Vol. 1. Once the EP On the Run was finished, de Massis departed, clearing space for ex-Skavocados trombonist Nish Herat. Late 1996 brought the full-length Watch Your Back, after which baritone saxophonist John Jordan came aboard ahead of the 1999 successor Let's Go to Work. The Kingpins’ third LP, Kings and Things, surfaced in 2000.
