The Longcut emerged from Manchester, England, as that city’s counterpart to the combined force of Joy Division and Fugazi. Guitarist Lee Gale, drummer and vocalist Stuart Ogilvie, and bassist Jon Fearon assembled the post-punk-inspired trio in 2002. Over the following two years they refined their eclectic approach through steady live performances throughout their hometown and its surrounding areas. Deltasonic offered the band a recording contract in early 2004, resulting in the release of the Transition EP before December arrived. June 2005 brought the second EP, A Quiet Life. Extensive U.K. dates alongside Nine Black Alps occupied the group through the first months of 2006, and their appearance at the annual South by Southwest conference in Austin, TX, introduced them to listeners across the Atlantic. A full-length studio album was scheduled to arrive the following autumn.
