Biography
The Perrys originated as a Southern gospel ensemble in Dawsonville, Georgia, during 1970, when siblings Randy, Libbi, and Debbie Perry first began performing together. More than ten years later, in the mid-1980s, the trio joined Morning Star Records and expanded into a quartet by adding bass singer Tracy Stuffle and soprano Denise Helton. Helton assumed the role previously held by Debbie Perry, who departed to raise her family, after which Stuffle and Libbi Perry married.
Their debut release as a quartet, the live album God's Little People, appeared in 1988, followed by the 1993 studio project Grace. In 1994 Randy Perry and Denise Helton exited for other careers, prompting the arrivals of Nicole Watts and Barry Scott; Mike Bowling soon succeeded Scott. This revised configuration issued Center Stage Live in 1996.
The group switched to Daywind Records in 1997, issuing Crossings as its first project for the label and Come to the Fountain the next year. Bowling subsequently joined the Crabb Family, while Watts retired following her marriage; David Hill and Loren Harris filled the vacancies. After Hill’s departure following the 2000 live set Absolutely Positively Live!, baritone Curt Davis altered the vocal configuration. Changed Forever emerged in 2001, This Is the Day in 2003, and Life of Love in 2004. Davis exited in summer 2004, replaced by Joseph Habedank, while Matthew Holt joined as pianist.
Still on Daywind, the ensemble paid tribute to the Happy Goodmans with Remembering the Happy Goodmans in 2005. Harris left the following year and was succeeded by Nick Trammell. The resulting lineup delivered Come Thirsty in 2006 and Look No Further in 2007. Bryan Elliott assumed piano duties from Holt in 2008, and Troy Peach replaced Trammell early in 2009; Almost Morning appeared later that year. Elliott departed in 2010, after which Blue Skies Coming was released in 2011 and Through the Night arrived in 2012.
Following fifteen years with Daywind, the Perrys moved to Stowtown Records for 2014’s Into His Presence. By the time Sing appeared in 2015, the veteran gospel act—then forty-five years old—had stabilized around Libbi Perry Stuffle, Tracy Stuffle, their son Jared Stuffle, baritone Troy Peach, and lead singer Andrew Goldman. Testament followed in 2017 on Provident.
