Biography
Formed as a modern rock quartet in southern California, The Red West traces its start to 2001, when college students Jayson Belt and Andy Smith began composing songs in their dorm room. The lineup soon grew with the addition of drummer Ryan Gleason and bassist Matt Bathancourt, leading the group to launch live performances across Orange County. Its self-released debut album, issued under the band name, earned backing from California’s active surf community, while local radio play helped generate wider attention for The Red West. Atlantic Records later signed the quartet and put out a reworked edition of that debut in September 2003.
