Biography
After their lead singer and guitarist exited in late 2006, the surviving members of Buffalo-based atmospheric pop combo This Day and Age re-formed as the Reign of Kindo. Joey Secchiaroli shifted from bass to lead vocals and guitar, while new bassist Jeff Jarvis completed the lineup with guitarist Mike Carroll, pianist Kelly Sciandra, and drummer Steve Padin. The Reign of Kindo’s sound proved more jazz-inflected than its predecessor, preserving the reflective Brit-pop leanings of acts such as Coldplay and Keane yet spotlighting piano and fusing elaborate jazz harmonies and dissonances with Ben Folds’ pop approach. Remaining on This Day and Age’s former label, One Eleven Records, the Reign of Kindo released a self-titled EP in 2007. Their inaugural full-length album, Rhythm, Chord & Melody, appeared the following year. In summer 2009 the band left One Eleven to join the Candyrat roster.
