Biography
Pop-punk enthusiasts with a clear affection for cheeseburgers, girls, and the Ramones, not always ranked in that sequence, the Steinways originated in Astoria, NY. There the members had earlier performed with assorted local punk outfits such as the Shy Guys, the Kevins, the Overlooked, and others. In spring 2003 guitarist and vocalist Grath Madden, guitarist and vocalist Ace, bassist and vocalist Michelle Shirelle, and drummer Chris Grivet began collaborating, and several months afterward they issued their debut EP, Bear vs. Man, compiled from initial demo recordings. Following appearances at numerous punk rock clubs across New York, New Jersey, and Long Island, the group delivered its first full-length album, Missed the Boat, on Cold Feet Records during summer 2006. The 7" EP Rocket Surgery appeared next on Don Giovanni Records in spring 2007, prompting the band to tour beyond the Eastern Seaboard in support, among other stops playing a Chicago show in the basement of a punk house occupied by two former members of Screeching Weasel.
