Biography
Tokyo sisters Saori, on guitar and vocals, and Rie, handling keyboards and vocals, lead the freewheeling dance-punk-pop project called The Suzan. Established in 2004, the group issued its debut album Suzan Galaxy in 2007, which caught the ear of Björn Yttling from Peter Bjorn and John. Yttling produced the follow-up, the Fool's Gold debut Golden Week for the Poco Poco Beat, in 2010. That same year Saori and Rie relocated to New York City, where they performed alongside Datarock and Chromeo. The pair returned to Japan in 2015, founding their own Poco Poco Beat label and releasing the mini-album Draw Your Dream that July. The Suzan's evolving sound surfaced again on the kinetic single "Jungle Beat" and the Doki Doki Sounds EP, both from 2017 and both issued via Peter Bjorn and John's INGRID imprint. For the 2018 Konichiwa EP the band and Yttling pursued a sleeker dance-pop direction.
