Biography
In 2001 the self-reliant punk-pop trio the Violents assembled in Illinois’ college town of Champaign-Urbana, taking cues from Bratmobile, Team Dresch, Bikini Kill and Sleater-Kinney. Guitarist Aimee Rickman, bassist Anni Poppen and drummer Sally Mundy—Rickman and Poppen sharing vocal and lyric duties—inked a deal with Mud Records, the punk-focused subsidiary of regional indie powerhouse Parasol Records, and issued their first album, Rebecca's Morning Voice, in September 2002.
