Biography
Theresa Andersson, a violinist who also writes and performs songs, grew up on the Swedish island of Gotland before moving to the United States in 1990 when she turned 18. She traveled with her partner at the time, guitarist Anders Osborne, and they made their home in New Orleans. There, her initial recording credits came from contributions to projects by Osborne and Merritt Doggins & the Bloodhounds.
In 1994, Rabadash Records put out her first solo effort, Vibes, which carried a jazz flavor. Throughout the late 1990s and into the early 2000s, she lent her talents to numerous recordings by artists including Marva Wright, the Shines, Rockin' Jake Band, Cowboy Mouth, Lenny McDaniel, Mike West, George McCorkle, Jonas Risin', Galactic, the Radiators, Martin Hoybye, Kenny Edwards, Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes, and Gary Hirstius. During this period, her residences shifted from New Orleans to Nashville and Austin before returning to New Orleans.
PoVolt Records issued her second solo album, No Regrets, in 2002. Her third, Shine, came out via Basin Street Records on April 20, 2004. Her compositions found their way into the television films The Brook Ellison Story and Infidelity, where she also made brief on-screen appearances. Additional film work included a cameo in A Love Song for Bobby Long, along with performing Neil Young's "Like a Hurricane" for the TV movie New Orleans Music in Exile.
On May 30, 2006, a self-titled EP surfaced as she launched a Southern tour backed by a quartet drawn from the ranks of World Leader Pretend alumni. Hummingbird, Go!, her 2008 release, was helmed by Swedish singer/songwriter Tobias Fröberg and included a guest spot from New Orleans icon Allen Toussaint.
She joined David Byrne and Fatboy Slim on the track "Ladies in Blue" from their 2010 album Here Lies Love. After welcoming children in 2011 and 2012, Andersson maintained an active slate of performances and recordings. Street Parade arrived in April 2012, boasting a collaboration with Peter Moren of Peter Bjorn and John, and she soon followed with a North American tour in support.
