Thom Brennan's serene, atmospheric compositions drawing from the natural world first gained visibility through the 1987 album Mountains. This project, undertaken jointly with Steve Roach, stirred recollections of Brennan's early years spent on an island within the East China Sea. It would take another nine years before his subsequent long-form release, the sea-themed Beneath Clouds, came forth. Following its issuance, an extended interval of inactivity persisted until 2001, at which point multiple works were made available via online channels, among them Shimmer, Vibrant Water, Secret Faiths of Salamanders, and Mist.
