Ian Boddy ranks among the foremost and most influential virtuosos within the electronic music scene. Since 1987 he has issued electronica recordings, placing them through two primary labels. He established Something Else Records purely as a vanity imprint dedicated to his own output, issuing at least fifteen albums on it. Through this work he grew closely tied to Ron Boots and Kees Aerts in the role of a “friend” of Groove Unlimited; the label showcases his material on its site and has hosted numerous joint concerts, one of which appeared as the Groove release Phase Three.

Boddy launched DiN Records in 1999, describing the imprint as “purveyors of fine contemporary electronica.” Although he serves as its flagship artist, the catalog also contains releases by additional musicians.

His earliest recognition arrived as a strict Berlin school synthesist. Over time he explored variations on that foundation, gradually merging ambient atmospheres into his analog textures. While he continues to draw on Berlin school principles, his output resists simple classification within that style alone. He has broadened his approach to incorporate ambient atmospheres and minimalism across his body of work.

Although assigning comparative value to recordings remains inherently subjective, Outpost—his collaboration with Robert Rich—stands as one of his strongest albums to date ~ Jim Brenholts
