Tony Thompson

Born in Waco, Texas, and raised in Oklahoma City, Tony Thompson served as lead vocalist for the R&B ensemble Hi-Five. At age eight he began delivering solo parts within his local church choir. A producer spotted him and offered him the chance to record a demo alongside Roderick Clark, Russell Neal, Marcus Sanders, and Toriano Easley, friends from his Waco period. The five members secured a contract with Jive Records in 1990. Their debut album, issued under the group’s own name, earned multi-platinum certification and yielded several hit singles, among them “I Like the Way (The Kissing Game),” “I Can’t Wait Another Minute,” and “Just Another Girlfriend.” Keep It Goin’ On arrived in 1992 and included the tracks “She’s Playing Hard to Get” and “Quality Time.” Faithful followed the next year. Thompson’s first solo album, Sexsational, appeared on Giant in 1995.
