Puerto Rican vocalist Tony Vega first entered the music world as a member of the adolescent rock outfit City Trash. The lure of Afro-Caribbean grooves, above all tropical styles, soon drew him instead into Raphy Levitt’s la Selecta, after which he quickly began working with Willie Rosario. Relocating to New York in 1986, Vega joined forces with Louie Ramírez for the album Super Banda and later shared stages with Eddie Palmieri. Once he signed with RMM, his first solo release appeared under the title Yo Me Quedo. In 1996 he contributed to Tropical Tribute to the Beatles, performing both “Hey Jude” and “Come Together.”
