Tyrant

The Tyrant sound system operates as a DJing and production duo consisting of Craig Richards, born in 1966 in Bournemouth, Hampshire, England, alongside Lee Burridge. Their breakthrough arrived through involvement in Sasha’s ‘Tyrant’ nights at London’s The End club, after which they secured a residency at Fabric while delivering sets at venues including The Bomb, Golden, Cream, and Gatecrasher, plus numerous dates abroad. Their sets merge breakbeat, ambient styles, dub-influenced house, and trance into a distinctive hybrid. Both members completed extended apprenticeships behind the decks, with Burridge spending several years working across Hong Kong and the Far East. Richards, following studies at St Martin’s College and The Royal College Of Art, spent time as a designer, graphic designer, and photographer prior to committing to music on a full-time basis. In 1995 he co-founded the acclaimed London club Malibu Stacey together with Seb Fontaine, earned a nomination for Best New DJ at Muzik magazine’s UK awards in 1999, and released a Nu Breed album on the Global Underground label in 2000.
