Biography
Vince Vance & the Valiants originated in New Orleans, Louisiana, during 1971 as an expansive ensemble of six, seven, or more participants that included a complete horn section alongside a trio of background singers. Initially recognized for their theatrical and comical stage show, the act sustained momentum through touring and word of mouth before achieving chart traction in 1980 with the novelty single “Bomb Iran,” a parody of “Barbara Ann” that surfaced amid the Iran hostage crisis and registered frequent call-in requests on American Top 40 stations. That early success stood in contrast to the sentimental, evergreen holiday favorite “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which the group issued in 1993; the more serious and sentimental track returned to the Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart each holiday season thereafter, attaining a highest placement of 23 in 2002. In 2003 Vince Vance & the Valiants paid tribute to America’s Armed Forces via the concept album We Don’t Run, then in 2006 delivered the proud single “I Am New Orleans” from the album I Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans.
