Biography
Jamaican-born singer Warrior King, born Mark Dyer, felt music pulling at him from an early age. While still a student he juggled recording ambitions with classes at both St. Andrew Technical and the National Tools Engineering Institute. Late in the 1990s he made his first appearance on the airwaves through the Coco Tea-produced single “Nuff a Dem a Evil,” recorded with fellow DJ Little Blacks. The pair performed at countless festivals and neighborhood gatherings until Frisco Kid bestowed the name Warrior King on Dyer, who then broke through with the single “Virtuous Woman.” That track, together with his polished blend of lovers rock and dancehall reggae, drew praise for its uplifting outlook, especially among women. His charged debut album of the same name reached stores in 2001, and Hold the Faith followed in 2005.
