Biography
White Fang originated in 2005 when Erik Gage, Kyle Handley, Jimmy Leslie, and Chris Uehlein formed the Portland, Oregon-based punk-noise quartet during their high-school years. The group quickly earned notice for its chaotic, thrash-oriented approach and steady stream of self-produced material. Their opening full-length, Pure Evil, surfaced in 2008 through the city’s independent Marriage Records. That imprint also issued the follow-up titles Whatever in 2009 and Greatful to Shred in 2011. Gage and Uehlein subsequently established their own outlet, Gnar Tapes & Shit. In the intervals between albums the band placed numerous 7-inch singles and EPs with assorted micro-labels while keeping up a rigorous touring pace. Deeply embedded in Portland’s underground, the four musicians have each participated in parallel indie acts such as the Memories, Boom!, Feather Headdress, and the Winter Coats. From 2011 onward White Fang has delivered a new album each year, most of them via Gnar Tapes. After issuing Full Time Freaks in 2014 the quartet moved to Los Angeles, extending its affiliation with similarly inclined independent artists at Burger Records, which put out the 2015 album Chunks.
