Biography
Dutch quartet Mozes and the Firstborn emerged with a distinctive blend of garage rock, neo-psychedelia, and melodic indie sounds. Their breakthrough came through Burger Records, the American indie imprint that put out their self-titled debut album in 2014, which broadened their audience considerably. Over the following half-decade, the ensemble refined their approach and live performances, resulting in the varied third full-length Dadcore, issued in 2019.
Formed in 2010 in Eindhoven, Netherlands, by Melle Dielesen handling vocals, guitar, and songwriting alongside bassist Corto Blommaert and drummer Raven Aartsen, the group launched with a performance at a house party marking Dielesen's 21st birthday. Their initial output arrived via self-release in 2011 as the EP I Got Skills, captured in Dielesen's home studio, with the title track quickly gaining popularity among fans. Upon inking a deal with Dutch independent TopNotch Records in 2013, the label's first single from the band featured a fresh version of that song.
Having grown into a four-piece with guitarist Ernst-Jan van Doorn's inclusion by the time of their TopNotch affiliation, the musicians soon commenced work on their first album after the "I Got Skills" single's issuance. Michel Schoots from Urban Dance Squad took production duties, and like prior efforts, recording occurred at Dielesen's studio. The self-titled LP gained worldwide attention thanks to Burger Records' American release in 2014. Power Ranger, an EP, surfaced in 2015, with the follow-up album Great Pile of Nothing appearing on Burger the next year. Subsequent international touring alongside Together PANGEA and the Growlers paved the way for their third record, the more diverse and refined Dadcore, which came out in early 2019.
