Diarrhea Planet

Nashville, Tennessee serves as home base for Diarrhea Planet, whose four guitarists—Jordan Smith, Brent Toler, Evan Bird, and Emmett Miller—along with bassist Mike Boyle and drummer Casey Weissbach, amplify the city’s guitar tradition into a dense, interlocking frontline. Since forming in 2009, the sextet has fused the brisk momentum of pop-punk with the buoyant drive of power pop, issuing party-focused material that began with the self-released EP Aloha. Although the six-piece lineup could appear cumbersome, the musicians lock into a collective momentum that generates an irrepressible surge of exuberant, melody-driven force.

A succession of 7-inch singles and support dates alongside JEFF the Brotherhood, Fucked Up, and Wavves led the group to Infinity Cat Recordings, the Nashville label run by JEFF the Brotherhood, which issued the band’s first full-length, Loose Jewels, in 2011. Extensive road work followed, highlighted by standout appearances at the South by Southwest Festival and a growing slate of headline shows that drew favorable attention. Their second album, I’m Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams, emerged in 2013. Amid ongoing tours, the band carved out studio time to record five tracks for the Aliens in the Outfield EP, issued in late 2014. Diarrhea Planet completed their third long-player, Turn to Gold, in 2016.
