Biography
The psych/acid rock outfit Wildest Dreams took shape under the leadership of Harvey W. Bassett, also known as veteran dance music figure DJ Harvey. Three musicians from Los Angeles-based soul/funk revivalists Orgone rounded out the lineup: keyboardist Dan Hastie, bassist Ethan Phillips, and guitarist Sergio Rios. Bassett handled drums, guitar, and vocals while authoring every song. The band tracked a Bassett-produced album in the span of one week; it surfaced a couple years afterward, in 2014, through the Smalltown Supersound label. This self-titled effort, scuzzier than Bassett’s other rock-fantasy outlet Map of Africa, carried artwork by Sasha Tessio that referenced Randy California’s 1972 solo debut album Kapt. Kopter and the (Fabulous) Twirly Birds.
