The Exeter-based folk trio Wildwood Kin came together when sisters Beth and Emillie Key joined forces with cousin Meghann Loney after receiving an invitation to perform at an open-mike night in a neighborhood pub. From an early age these three family members had started harmonizing together under the guidance of their mothers. Drawing influence from Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, and Mumford and Sons, they developed an Anglo-Americana approach to their original compositions, leading to the issuance of their first EP in 2015. Salt of the Earth earned them a nomination for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, and festival appearances at Glastonbury, Cambridge Folk Festival, and Beautiful Days followed in 2016. Extensive touring included support slots for the Oh Hellos and Seth Lakeman, with the latter featuring the group on his Top 20 record Ballads of the Broken Few. Recognition came in the form of the Bob Harris Emerging Artist award at the second U.K. Americana Awards during the first months of 2017. Their initial full-length effort, Turning Tides, arrived later in the year and evoked the style of American sibling trio Haim.
