Biography
Drawn to the capital by his reverence for Alton Ellis—an artist whose timbre closely resembled Jarrett's—he sought to collaborate vocally with this figure he idolized. He affiliated with the Flames during the mid-1960s in order to support Ellis, only to soon pursue an independent trajectory, releasing numerous recordings that frequently incorporated interpretations of works by both Marley and Ellis in addition to his original pieces conveying the hardships of the ghetto in imagery as striking as that found in Bosch's art. ~ Roger Steffens
