Xploding Plastix

Within just twenty-two hours of dispatching their demo, the offbeat electronica pair Xploding Plastix from Oslo, Norway began fielding calls from multiple record labels. Jens Petter Nilsen and Hallvard Hagen established the duo in early 1999, then devoted a full year to shaping their sonic identity before circulating the recording. Beatservice Records issued the act’s debut single, “Treat Me Mean, I Need the Reputation,” in 2000, after which it rapidly earned favor with boundary-pushing DJs such as Coldcut and LTJ Bukem. During 2001 the same imprint delivered both the full-length Amateur Girlfriends Go Proskirt Agents and the EP Behind the Eightball. Palm Pictures later handled a 2004 reissue of that debut album.
