Jean-Christophe Le Saoût performs under the trip-hop alias Wax Tailor, which surfaced on France’s electronica circuit in 2004 through the EP Lost the Way yet waited until 2006 for its first full-length release. The album Tales of the Forgotten Melodies achieved strong sales in both France and the United States while registering notable impact on that year’s CMJ charts. Wax Tailor resurfaced in 2007 with the follow-up Hope & Sorrow, which enlisted vocalist Charlotte Savary and Ursula Rucker; the project’s reception prompted a series of concerts by the artist and his four-piece band.

In 2009 he issued In the Mood for Life, again drawing on Savary’s contributions alongside Dionne Charles, Sara Genn, and additional guests. The fourth album, Dusty Rainbow from the Dark, arrived in 2012 and spotlighted the single “Heart Stop” with Jennifer Charles; it entered the French charts at number eight and received a Victoires la Musique nomination for Best Electronic Music Album. By Any Beats Necessary followed in 2016, led by the single “I Had a Woman,” with the companion set By Any Remixes Necessary appearing the next year.
