Yemi Alade

Yemi Alade, a Nigerian Afro-pop singer and songwriter, first rose to prominence in 2009 after claiming victory at the Peak Talent Show. Born in Abia in southeastern Nigeria, she balanced her studies toward a degree at the University of Lagos with her musical goals, issuing her debut single "Fimisile" later that same year after her success on the widely viewed competition. An agreement with Effyzzie Music Group brought her the 2013 international hit single "Johnny," which later appeared on her debut album, King of Queens, released in 2014. Combining reggae, R&B, rap, and Afro-pop, the record highlighted partnerships involving notable producers and guest artists such as Phyno and Chidinma. Her second album, Mama Africa, arrived in 2016 and spotlighted the singles "Do as I Do" and "Ferrari," with the companion EP Mama Afrique appearing the following year.
