Biography
Stonebwoy has cultivated a broad following across Ghana and much of Africa through his distinctive mix of Afro-pop, dancehall, and reggae. Active since the early 2010s, he has remained a steady figure in Ghanaian music by working with domestic talents such as Sarkodie and Samini as well as prominent African acts including Davido and Burna Boy. The 2014 release Necessary Evil brought him multiple Ghana Music Awards and opened the door to wider success when his 2017 album Epistles of Mama reached the Billboard charts. His fourth project, Anloga Junction in 2020, extended that reach through appearances by Keri Hilson and Nasty C. After further joint efforts, he issued the solo single "Therapy" in 2022.
Born Livingstone Etse Satekla in the Ghanaian suburb of Ashaiman, Stonebwoy took part in music and theater while still a teenager. A former schoolmate of rapper Sarkodie, he completed a college degree in marketing before devoting greater attention to his recording career. The 2012 single "Climax," which featured dancehall singer Samini, generated early interest and led to the debut album Grade 1. His polished vocal style and lively Afro-pop-reggae sound proved popular, and by the time Necessary Evil arrived in 2014 he had begun to secure a prominent place in Ghanaian music. Domestic acclaim for that record soon translated into broader recognition with the 2017 album Epistles of Mama, his expansive third effort. Dedicated to his late mother and featuring guests such as Agent Sasco, Kelvyn Boy, Burna Boy, and Sarkodie, the project climbed to number 13 on Billboard's World Albums chart.
A guest spot on Collie Buddz' streaming track "Bounce It" helped carry Stonebwoy's profile into the next decade, where Anloga Junction appeared in 2020. The Keri Hilson-assisted single "Nominate" again placed him on the Billboard chart. Following the non-album track "Putuu Freestyle," he teamed with Celina Sharma for the 2021 EP Cece and then returned with the solo song "Therapy" in 2022.
