A devastating earthquake struck Haiti in January 2010, resulting in 230,000 deaths and displacing close to one million residents. Motivated to support relief efforts in Haiti, experienced producer Bob Ezrin gathered prominent Canadian figures from the pop and rock scenes for a charity recording. The impromptu collective known as Young Artists for Haiti laid down tracks on February 18, 2010, creating a new rendition of K'naan's global success "Wavin' Flag," featuring contributions from Justin Bieber, Pierre Bouvier of Simple Plan, Drake, Nelly Furtado, Emily Haines of Broken Social Scene, Avril Lavigne, Corb Lund, Matt Mays, Kardinal Offishall, Sam Roberts, Deryck Whibley of Sum 41, along with numerous additional performers and K'naan. March 12, 2010 marked the release of this single, which quickly ascended to the top of Canada's pop rankings while achieving sales of three million units across physical and digital platforms. Funds generated went to Free the Children, War Child Canada, and World Vision Canada.
