Biography
Norwegian contemporary folk singer and songwriter Aasmund Nordstoga first stepped forward as a solo artist with an album in 2009. He was born August 26, 1964, in Vinje, Telemark, Norway, to a pair of folksingers and grew up as the older brother of Norwegian folk-pop superstar Odd Nordstoga. Before that solo debut he belonged to the groups Storegut and Trispann. Storegut, formed as a collaboration with Odd, serves as a live performance project drawn from the poems of Aasmund Olavsson Vinje. The Nordstoga brothers launched the Storegut project onstage in 2002 with Lars Underdal completing the lineup, then revived an altered version in 2008 that placed Per Anders Buen Garnås in Underdal’s role. Nordstoga is also linked to Trispann, a trio rounded out by Linn Korssjøen on vocals and Åsmund Reistad on contrabass, guitar, and mandola, with Nordstoga supplying vocals. The group delivered its self-titled debut album Trispann in 2004 on the Kvarts label. Following a major-label agreement with Warner Music, Nordstoga released his first solo album, Ein Visefugg, in 2009. The record reached the Top Five on the Norwegian albums chart and includes appearances by Odd Nordstoga and Åsmund Reistad among its other contributors.
