Vassendgutane, a Norwegian dansband known for its country-inflected sound, first appeared on record in 2000 and achieved widespread commercial recognition during the middle of the decade via its third full-length release. The group formed in 1996 in Ørsta, Norway, and features the lineup of Sindre Aam on vocals and bass, Arthur Johan Bjørdal handling vocals and guitar, Rune S. Brautaset on guitar and vocals, Ernst O. Brune on accordion, Lars Egil Vaagseter on steel guitar, Eivind Skjerdal on guitar, and Roberth Lien on drums. Its debut album, Pylse og Konjakk, arrived in 2000 through the Bare Bra Musikk imprint, with Gi Clutch following two years later. The 2005 effort Ungkar Med Dobbelseng marked the first project to reach a broad audience; although initial traction was slow, the record eventually entered the Norwegian albums chart’s Top 40 in 2006, nearly twelve months after its launch. To build on that momentum, the band issued the concert DVD Live Rockefeller in 2007. After the mid-decade breakthrough propelled by Ungkar Med Dobbelseng, the subsequent album XO became a chart-topping success in 2008 and remained on the Norwegian listings for more than six months.
