Originating from Trondheim, Norway, Too Far Gone came together in 1993 as a country-rock group featuring Børge Rømma on vocals, Ola Buan Øien handling guitar and mandolin, Roar Øien on steel guitar and banjo, Magne Kollstrøm on bass, and Anders Stensås behind the drums. The band issued its first album, Zetor'n, in 1998, after the title track had surfaced as a single the prior year.

Baest I Test followed in 2000, with Tia Flyg arriving in 2002 and Like Refugees in 2004. These three records earned moderate chart traction while repeated Norwegian concert dates helped solidify a loyal audience. Breakthrough momentum arrived with the fifth album, Løkky, in 2006; its promotional singles "AElsk Dae Vilt," "Asbjørn Per Moen," and "Løkky" propelled the project into the Norwegian Top 20.

The tenth-anniversary CD/DVD package Livåt, released in 2008 and combining selected earlier material with live recordings, climbed to the Top Ten and remained on the chart for 12 weeks. The follow-up effort, Sola i Ryggen, extended that commercial stride when it appeared in 2009.
