Biography
Saving Abel originated in 2004 when vocalist Jared Weeks joined forces with guitarist Jason Null to fuse riff-heavy hard rock, sexually charged lyrics, and Southern rock influences. The quintet took shape in Corinth, MS, after Weeks and Null had sharpened their abilities in separate groups and chose to combine their songwriting efforts. Early in 2005 producer Skidd Mills noticed the pair and offered them studio time in Memphis. While holding day jobs and playing regional shows, the two repeatedly traveled the route between Corinth and Memphis, slowly tracking their self-titled EP with Mills and recruiting guitarist Scott Bartlett, bassist Eric Taylor, and drummer Blake Dixon to complete the lineup.
The EP landed Saving Abel a contract with Virgin Records within a year, bringing Mills back to produce the band’s first full-length album. Mixing newly written songs with the strongest tracks from the EP, the self-titled record appeared in March 2008. It reached gold certification inside twelve months, driven by lead single “Addicted,” which entered the Top 40 and nearly reached the top of the modern rock charts. During national touring to support the album, Saving Abel road-tested fresh material that largely surfaced on the 2010 follow-up Miss America.
