Emerging in the middle of the 2000s, the intense Canadian post-grunge band My Darkest Days came together in Norwood, Ontario, centered on vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Matt Walst along with bassist Brendan McMillan, drummer Doug Oliver, and guitarist Sal Costa. Matt Walst, whose sibling Brad handles bass duties in Three Days Grace, draws from the sounds of Nirvana, A Perfect Circle, and Nickelback. In 2009, Chad Kroeger of Nickelback brought them aboard his 604 Records label, leading directly to the debut single “Porn Star Dancing.” Their self-titled first album arrived in 2010 and climbed to position 12 on the Billboard U.S. chart and 11 on the Canadian equivalent. The band maintained their pace by issuing the track "Casual Sex" at the start of 2012 and then unveiling the follow-up full-length Sick and Twisted Affair before the year concluded.
